Come alongLeeds Folk Music Meetup is a regular fortnightly session on Wednesday nights for folk musicians on any instruments, it is a drop in session so no membership or commitment necessary. We meet at 197 Woodhouse Street, LS6 2NY. Beginners group starts at 7pm, intermediate group starts at 8pm. Advanced players meet on Thursdays at Yorkshire College of Music and Drama (contact Iveta for details about Leeds Folk Fiddle Group). The group is lead by a folk violinist and a violin teacher Iveta Hlavenkova. They learn a new tune every week. You can learn by ear so no need to read music. But sheet music in treble clef and chords provided.
No experience with folk music necessary, suitable for anyone who wants to learn something new and has some basic skills on the instrument. Leeds Folk Meetup plays traditional folk tunes from Ireland, England and Scotland, also European folk music, Klezmer, Gypsy, Sevdah and anything the members would enjoy! |

Fantastic! A lot of fun, very supportive environment. Iveta teaches really well and encourages us to try stuff that challenges us. Just need some more flautists to help me out :) Robert Cole It was a lot of fun learning new tunes with a supportive, friendly group of musicians Carl Silverwood It was good to go back to basics and learn new songs with a great teacher and lovely bunch of people.
